Dapper Dabbler

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Today I give you "Dapper Dabbler" a Northern Shoveler Drake.I very much enjoy these ducks as they go about their lives on ponds and sloughs here where I live. When there is a group of these birds together and they are feeding the sound they all make supping up the water they dabble is very much like frying bacon and eggs and all the while the males make a ticking sound and the females softly quack, all pleasing sounds to my ears.Every once and a while a Drake will suddenly jump up and take to wing only to fly a meter or two and splash back down and continue on as before with that ticking sound. This capture was not an easy one to get as I was hiding amongst dried weeds and being poked by a piece of old barbed wire but it was worth it as the photo of this fellow on my monitor is larger than life size as he was only about ten feet from me.I took this photo while the sun was still fairly low in the sky, sitting down and enjoying him and the blue sky which coloured the water so nicely.I hope everyone can have the chance to relax and get photos of the creatures they love as it really is such a great way to spend part or all of your day off, even without any pictures taken.Thanking you all in advance,I shall try to get in some reviews of my own but I distract easily knowing these and other birds are out near where I live.Cropped and resized using Paint.Net.

Hi Bob , I had a chuckle reading your note , the male duck that frequents the little slew out front my house makes that slurppy sound :-).
again you have great rich color in the water , and the shovelers bright color. lighting and detail is good too. TFS

Hello Bob,
Seems like they have a ball these days, enjoying spring to the fullest!
This fellow seems to be happy too, as he is enjoying lunch on the water...
Fine details in the plumage and attractive colour reproduction!
greetings,

I envy your "collection" of waterbirds in Canada, so many and abundant....

Hi Bob
That's a really colourful one with great eye contact sharpness and colours. That eye is a real show stealer! That sunlight falling on the glistening beak adds to the show.So yes, you managed to get quiet close to this Dapper Dabbler and getting poked as well, but the result is a fantastic one.
TFS & Cheers
