[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
hello, our friend Ivan (Argus) in my yesterday's posting
write me : « I have always wanted to photograph a Woodcock »

i would like dedicate to Ivan this image and wishing him
one day to had the chance to do woodcock photos
posed on ground in his natural habitat

me too (moi aussi) Ivan I have always wanted to photograph
a Woodcock on ground, before that i did some
shots in in-flight, not the best images because it is
very difficult to do such photos in the bushy woods

for the ones who come to view this image, in my yesterday's
posting i explain how i get the chance to do a photo
of the woodcock posed on ground in his natural habitat,
in my next posting i will write a little bit more on that

now i want to talk on with wish of my cameras
i did these images, if you go see it is done with
my small 3 megapixels 3X zoom compact FUJIFILM

why i did not shot the images with
my SLR-like FUJIFILM bridge camera ?

there is 2 reasons for that, my bridge does not have
image stabilzer, we where going on late afternoon,
late afternoon in the bushy woods the light is not at his best,
my shutter speed has to be low, with the bridge that
does not have image stabilzer just forget it

with my compact i don't have that problem,
if you see the shutter speed at 1/60s
i can never do that with my bridge

the other reason is that in this situation of images
i love to shoot in continious mode, click click click,
with my bridge i can do it, but in the digital viewfinder
after each click somthing dark happen in the viewfinder
and that thing it just disturb me, it is the reason why
i never shot in continious mode with my bridge

with my compact, that the viewfinder is optical and not digital
like the birdge's one, i don't have that problem and my eye is
always on the subject, now my compact do only 4 continious shots

again i dedicate this image to our great friend Ivan
wishing him one day to had the chane to photograph
the Eurasian Woodcock (scolopax rusticola) that it is bigger
than our's the American Woodcock (scolopax minor)

i have found these 3 british links on the Eurasian Woodcock

http://www.birdguides.com/html/vidlib/species/Scolopax_rusticola.htm

http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/w/woodcock/

http://www.birdcare.com/bin/showsonb?woodcock

and here is the link on the American Woodcock

http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/BirdGuide/American_Woodcock_dtl.html

in the WORKSHOP i put another image of the banding
of the cute and beautiful baby woodcock

my next posting too will be another image of woodcocks

MERCI

Salut Asbed!

Merci,

Mario

Hola Asbed.
I know that is very hard to take a photo of this birds, and You did in a great way. Lovly pose in ground.
I have been pretty bussy last days, so I miss some works from You.

Hello Asbed,
This Woodcock is very well camouflaged. Great picture, well composed and very sharp.
..Well done

Everton

This is a lovely shot, Asbed.Very well seen and captured.
Cheers!
Your friend,
Goldy

Asbed,

That's a very nice dedication my friend.
No wonder this bird is hard to photograph as you can hardly see it :) I think I scared something like that once on one of my walks but I cannot tell you what it was. It made a noise and ran away or rather, went back into its hiding place never to be seen again ... :) You've got amazing eyes to be able to pick a bird like that out of the wood work. Great work Asbed.

Best Regards,

Martin

Hello Asbed. Very nice looking woodcock in natural surrounding. I like the lighting and the contrasting color among the tall grass. Well done and thanks for sharing. Jusni

Hi Asbed, for this forum, your 3 megapixel did a great job. The shot is sharp and you have great colour throughout. I like a natural shot like this giving us some insight into the natural environment of the animal we're shooting. This is excellent. We can see the camouflage at work, yet you have been able to nicely isolate it, with your detail, so we can easily see the bird. Very nice crop, and very good positioning of the bird, in this crop. Love that eye.

Thanks, John

Hi Asbed,

Amazing how well cammouflaged this woodcock is. Still you got a good view of him. The workshop is fascinating - I didn't realize these birds were banded. Must take skill to band such a tiny little bird. He looks so cute in the man's hand.

Hello Asbed!

Great observation of this well camouflaged bird. It's not easy to see it on the ground.

Anyway sharpness is little out of focus ;)

Regards
Jacek

Hi Asbed, splendid camouflage for this lovely bird, excellent sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Asbed,

A very difficult shot to get given the camouflage and obstructions, but you have done a very good job to bring to TN how good the bird's camouflage is. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Asbed,
Thank you my friend!
I missed this fine capture while I was away but it is not too late to see it and admire this image of a Woodcock sitting tight in its natural habitat, the grass shoots adding to the composition.
This is also nice and sharp and well composed. An obvious one for my favorites!
Merci beaucoup mon ami!
A bientôt,
Ivan

Hello Asbed

A very good pov for this elusive and mostly nocturnal bird.
The eye shows well.
Good plumage detail.
It certainly looks pensive as it waits to see if it's defences work.
