Hello TN,

Today I present a treat for warbler enthusiasts – the Prothonotary Warbler. This bird is listed as endangered in Canada and breeds only in a few selected areas. It prefers flooded bottomland hardwood forests and requires a plentiful supply of moss which it uses as nest lining. It is the only warbler in Northeastern America that breeds in nest holes. They cannot carve their own nests so they will use chickadee and woodpecker nests as well as naturally occurring hollows. This one lives in Rondeau Provincial Park where an extensive program is underway to help the Prothonotary Warbler survive this difficult time.
I took this picture in the afternoon under poor lighting conditions. It was getting dark and unfortunately this picture came out a bit blurred. In retrospect, I could have cranked up the ISO but I got caught up in the moment. All I thought of was to shoot a few pictures while I had the chance. In the end, I sharpened it up in PS but it could still be better. However, I have met a lot of people at Rondeau who came there just for this little bird. So, for those who missed the opportunity to see one, here it is as seen on my first ever encounter with it. It also looks like it is the first picture of a Prothonotary Warbler on TN :)

Best Regards,

Martin

Hi Martin,
I think u did well under the conditions.. Getting caught up in the moment happens frequently especially the 1st time seeing a bird u haven't seen b4..Enjoyed the read about this little fellow..
Cheers
Jane :)

Nice looking Bird Martin. Sorry to hear it's rare. I love yellow in a bird.

Hallo Martin
Now this is what I call a "Just what the doctor has ordered" shot. It is such a sunny and cheerful shot. Yellow always gives me the feeling of happiness or cheerfulness and that is just what I see in this image. The sunlight on the water makes this image just stand out more brightly, and adding to it the reflection that displays very well. It is a beautiful bird with clear and beautiful feathers. The combination of colours of the plumage is a super match and a real eye-catcher. Your focus here was spot on. This was a real pleasure to look at. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards
Anna

Prothonotary Warbler - for such a pretty bird, he sure has a hard name!!
Yes, what an attractive fellow, I love his yellow plumage, especially the brighter feathers on his head and back.
And even the reflections make this a more interesting image - it's a lovely scene all over.
Thanks for sharing
Janice
