Hi Folks , some thing a bit different for me today , a slightly different face of nature than what I normally photograph.
I mentioned in an earlier download of a homeless beaver about the rising river here in High River Alberta , well I would guess that they are all in that same boat now :-(
with spring runoff and the last week of rain our little river here is pressing at its banks , some spots have spilled over the bank as well.
these four photo's are of our two bridges and a local golf coarse.
at a regular time of year with the river at more normal levels I could walk under the train bridge in the top left photo , the water is about level with the bottom support beam so that would be over a six foot increase in the rivers level. the second bridge is right beside the train bridge , it is given a bit of relief from the forces as the train bridge is catching the bulk of the debris , still some trees have made it under the first bridge and are hung up on the second.
the poor owner of the golf course in the bottom photos , just managed to get opened up from the flooding here in 2005.the left picture is where the river has breached the bank , the other is one of the holes I included the bench for a bit of depth reference.
so far the area is not as bad as 2005 , but the forecast is for 'Afternoon Showers' , in 2005 the press made our flood sound much worse than it was , I don't think we are in much danger of having to swim to safety...
as for the beavers , I heard one slap the water as I walked past on the riverside pathway , they seem to be taking refuge in the bushes and trees that are along the edge of the river , the water is safer for them there.
unfortunately the water level has cut off my favorite access points to my frequented area , but at least all of the ponds in there will be nice and full when the river subsides , but I am going to be needing mud boots for some time :-)
well I think I will go build an ark :-D
thanks for stopping in.
regards

Hi Art,
very nice grouping of photos in this montage and I too went out to photo the river.2005 was a bad flood year, however the one of 1995 was much worst as about 40% of High River was under water at the time.Having looked at the river today, one must have a healthy respect for the fast flowing water as it is a force to reckon with to say the very least.I was thinking about the beavers as well and I'm happy that they are safe and sound, can't say their homes are however. All four little photos have good detail and natural colour going for them and I thank you for sharing something a little out of the ordinary for this website. Hi Art,we have a same situation from a week,it's raining a lot and the rivers are very very full of water, this year the summer don't want start, excellent work,my best compliments,Luciano
Art,
Very nice series of shots. You'd think that the bridge would be in danger of failure with the water pushing right against it... Its good to hear that the beavers are doing alright. I guess they have to be able to adjust and survive spring floods or otherwise they wouldn't last for too long. TFS.
Best Regards,
Martin
