Hi Folks , looks like the early arrival damselflies are here now , I seen my first of the year a couple days back , and a few more yesterday , this common blue , and a spreadwing variety as well.
a lot of times when I shoot a macro I look through the eyepiece at a distance , so that I do not have to try to bring my whole body close to an insect and scare it away with the motion , holding my camera a foot or so out also acts to magnify the image in the eyepiece and show focus much better some times it is even easier to keep the camera stable too, only draw back is a bit of hit and miss on keeping subjects in the frame , but using the focus grid points helps a lot there.
looking through the eyepiece in this manner I noticed that this damselfly was chewing on something , I did not see that naked eye but with the magnification I did , so I went for a lower POV , it was resting inches from the ground , that was a bit tricky ,or I would have went lower.
it would be nice if all insects where so kind as to pose in a place that is not awkward for us photographers :-) , to make things even more fun , the ground was quite damp from overnight showers. at least it was good and busy with its meal letting me freely get some photos.
I got six shots of this one , was going to try to get closer and more in front , but some folks came by walking their dog.
so sitting on the wet half muddy ground , bent over as far as I could, my camera a foot or so from my face and firing the flash in broad sunny daylight....
I guess it is no wonder I get some funny looks when I am at the park :-)
thanks for stopping in , hope that you like it.
regards
