Every morning on my walk I see one of about 6 Blue Herons in our bay. They are graceful, VERY patient and
unfortunately declining in numbers.
The Great Blue Heron "Ardea herodias" is the largest heron in Canada. Adults stand over 1 m high with their necks outstretched, and they weigh around 2.5 kg.
This bird gives the general impression of being tall and thin: its wings, neck, bill, and legs are long. The long limbs dictate the heron’s movements: it flies with deep, slow wing beats, and on land, or in the water, it walks erect with long strides. In flight, the neck is doubled back, the head resting against the shoulders, and the long legs held straight behind. |

Each day when I commute to Toronto I try to take the back road and notice 2 blue herons on a pond.. I love seeing them as a greetings for the day.. seeing your photo brought me a great smile.. I love the colours on the rock to had just some spice to it..
Hello Doreen
Very nice picture of this Blue Heron. I think they are beautiful birds - very sofisticated and proud to look at when they are hunting and very swift too. The small waves around the legs really add some movement to the picture. The colours look very natural and you have handled the light very good too. Nice focus with gooddetails in the plumage.
Personally I would have cropped half of the space in the left and about 1/3 in the top of the picture to bring the heron a little more out of center.
All over a very nice picture to look at.
I do not add any smiley as I have shot off the smileys.
Regards
Mogens
