"Honey Mushroom" = Armillaria novae-zelandiae Stevenson.

A few days ago I had seen Mr. Steve Reeckie's (of New Zealand, known within the TN circle as LordPotty) BEAUTY on TN. However, after the several days of semi-heavy rainfall days in Calgary without much sunshine I noticed very similar mushrooms, but this time, they had grown in the front of our home. I felt compelled to photograph them right away and share these beauties with my friends.

In fact my second image on TN was a mushroom; and, here it is: "A VEGITARIAN DELIGHT."

I was not looking for anything in particular that day. I was admiring how tall the grass had grown in just a few days. Then I saw 4 moths clustered in a bunch; and, when I got closer I frightened them. They flew away. They were enjoying "something" .... and on closer inspection I noticed these mushrooms. I remembered LordPotty's mushrooms .... "Honey Mushrooms". After registering them I cut a tiny piece to "taste" them. And, yes, they are SWEET. In fact, VERY VERY sweet.

Conclusion: The moths were licking on them.... and are rightfully called "HONEY MUSHROOMS".

P.S. A NEW NOTE:
A little bit back to Your fungi collage: remember, I also didn't say it 100% shows Tricholomopsis rutilans. It also may be something from Russulaceae family (T. rutilans belongs to Tricholomataceae). But it's absolutely sure that one isn't an Armillaria, the habit of the fungi is very different.

Friendly regards, László

Hi Mario,
Outstanding collage of shots of these Honey Mushrooms and the four different perspectives show their size, form and habitat perfectly. Very neat and sharp image with nice colours and perfect bright lighting. Great find by you and the fact that it is so sweet in another bonus. Excellent POVs and very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Hi Mario,
Very fine photos and collage, but Your ID specification is wrong. It's impossible being an Armillaria, the species (all) of that genus are growing only on wood (dead or living), in colonies, with stipes united at the base. Also the lamellas and cap are very different from any Armillaria. I'm not sure about what really is, but my tip is Tricholomopsis rutilans. Let me show You an Armillaria photo to see the differences. Otherwise, A. novae-zelandiae is only living in those islands, if I'm not wrong.
Tfs, regards, László

Hello Aires, wonderful shots of this interesting and new mushrom for me. TFS. Regards, Mehmet

Is it because simply of their taste or are the taste neurons in the brain enhanced? This question is one which has gone on in some psychadelic circles for many years starting with Carlos Castenada...I have read much by him....wonderful lesson plan Mario...

Hallo Mario
Time was my biggest enemy lately, and I have lots of catching up to do. I can see why this mushroom is called the "Honey Mushroom". You have captured this golden coloured mushrooms with great clarity and the colours are well seen and displayed. It actually looks very tempting to eat and I am not sure if these ones are edible? Your display of the 4 images in 1 is really done wonderfully and it is good to compare and view them all at the same time. A gorgeous image filled with lovely colours and details. The green grass really highlights the golden yellow colour of the mushrooms, making this a great attraction to the eye image. Thanks for sharing this interesting photograph.
Kind regards
Anna

Namastay Mario,
A nice collage of this beautiful mushroom. Superb details and nice composition. Yes mine is a small but very powerful one for stable tiny subjects. It has a macro close up focusing distance of 4 cms. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Sincerely
Haraprasan

Hi dear Mario.
I have only one or two bad shots of fungi. You have posted whole collage with amazing specimens. Simply great quality of the images. Superb lights, sharpness, vibrant colours. POVs are selected excellently too. Bravo. Well done.
