Hi folks , today is another common blue butterfly , and again. in a front view. after chasing this little fella from flower to flower it rewarded me by giving me a second try at a front profile view. I was fairly happy with that.

mostly my camera was setup just like my last try , using the speedlight set to TTL auto mode , a +1 gain on its output , and a matching aperture and shutter speed , but this time I backed off on my shooting distance , and used a bit of extra digital zoom by cropping more in software.

backing off my distance served to extend the effective focus quite a bit more than stopping down would , but of course yields a smaller image of the butterfly. it sure is a fun challenge to find that happy balance on the larger insects. hope I get a good feel for it in time for the Dragonflies :-)

thanks for stopping in , hope you like it
regards

Critiques [Translate]

Hi Art,
First of all, many thanks for your kind critique on my mating blues.
Secondly, I must congratulate you on your ability and inclination to do a lot of innovations with your equipment.
The result in this case is a sharp and attractive capture of the entire butterfly from an unusual frontal point of view with immaculate details and colours.
Thanks for sharing this great image.
Regards,
ram

Hi Art,

Its a nice Image of butterfly in frontal view, I have freind photographer Mr.Nagraj of Bangalore, who does experiment in such kind of pictures. TFS.

Hi Art,
I am impressed with your technical knowledge here like how to extend the depth of field and using the speedlight. However I am not happy with the cropping (Square) here as it would have ben nice to see more of the beautiful flower. Somehow I feel the flower has become the main subject than the blue, that doesn't mean the blue is no good, I liked the front view which has some amzging details and shape. I appreciate your effort and the image, very much of your vision. TFS.

Hi Art

Great notes explaining how you got the shot. I love this POV and I also love how the fine hairs of the butterfly seem to match the underside of the flower. You really caught some stunning details. Great flash work and nice vibrant but natural colours.
