The Milk River

Don't let this serene section of the Milk River fool you. Upstream the river is full of rocks, narrow channels, and a few rapids. Through Writing On Stone Provincial Park, the river begins to straighten out and become a pleasant river to canoe. The source of the Milk River begins in the mountains in northern Montana and then enters Alberta for about 385 km before heading south and joining up with the Missouri River. Eventually it joins up the the Mississippi and ends up in the Gulf of Mexico. Most other rivers in Western Canada end up north in the Hudson's Bay.

Hello Janice,
Interesting content and note. Maybe it is called the Milk river 'cause it doesn't end north in the Hudson bay but going south and thus coming from 'white' Canada...I think this doesn't make sense:-).
Well done. Beautiful light. I like these rocks in combination with the green grass.

A beautiful capture of this superb landscape. Excellent POV. Superb light on the rocks faraway. Excellent contrast with the rocks area and the river in the shadow in the foreground. Beautiful colours. A very peaceful picture.

So that's were the milk is comming from. I thought it came from the grocery store.
The rocks in this photo are as beautiful as the entire photo. The rocks also show what the river can look like with high water. This river must originate on the west of the great devide othewise it would have ended up in Hudson's bay.
I love the late sun in this photo. Since you were standing in the shadow, the eye is drawn into the photo toward the light.

Good morning, Janice

I have discovered this picture early this morning before I start work. I usually go through some galleries on TN to find a serene picture that would help me to find my way through a day of hard work. This morning, I would like to follow the marvellous meanders of the Milk River, absorbing the smooth light reflecting on its surface and looking at the delightful shapes of the rocks hedging its banks... It's hard to leave it and to say goodbye to the delicate and melancholic sky.
