[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi Folks , Today's photo is of this common house fly sitting on a beautiful Canada Anemone.

though I am sure this one has been covered here on TN , I will still try at a few words on the topic , and perhaps I can turn a new leaf :-)

the house fly is considered a domestic insect , for the reason that it is closely associated with humans , I wonder how many people consider this in the light of the eating and breading habits of the fly , it is highly dependent on refuse type materials , for food and breading reasons , basically it is dependent upon filth. in its wake it also deposits that filth making itself a major spreader of diseases , I will skip any long lists of frightening conditions it is capable of transmitting , it suffices to say that they can transmit many harmful diseases. there are three avenues that a fly transfers contaminants , first is the direct method , by landing on a contaminant and carrying it to a new location upon it's body , the second and third is by eating contaminants , and depositing them at a new location via fecal material , or its digestive enzymes which it deposits on to material it is going to eat.

the female can lay up to 9000 eggs , eggs are laid individually , but will be grouped together , 36 hours after the fly emerges from the pupal stage it is ready to breed.

the male fly is territorial , it will select and defend an area against other male flies , and attempt to mount any females that enter that territory. ( perhaps I will upload that one at a later date ;-)

often times when a fly is seen landed , one will notice that they begin to rub their front hands together , the reason for this is the front hands have many sensory receptors , both tactile and taste. basically they are cleaning themselves , interestingly enough they will do this more often in the presence of other flies , also the female will clean more often than the male.

thanks for stopping in
regards

Well, it can be scary if mismanaged. Anyway, great sharp focus and exposure. A common house fly with a nice BG match, wonderful shot.

Hello Art !
Each time I look at a fly close-up, I think to myself that this is probably he ugliest thing on earth - look at her, she's a real monster seen from this close ! :-) But well, the picture is wonderful, with many excellent details, nice composition, beautiful flower in BG, and the fly seems to be looking directly at you. Very well done !
Valerie.

Hi Art,
You showed us the way to capture even a fly so beautifuly, which we all hate. think of this, the fly may be a monster but it probably may have some definate role in the nature. Your comments are very useful and the fly will feel proud abut it. the image is wonderful, but i still not happy with the cropping, no arguements as it may be personal taste. what i felf is the white area (beautiful flower) occupies larger area and the fly is lost there. so i took liberty to do workshop and hope you don't mind. TFS.
