Hi Folks, today I have this White Faced Ibis found at our local wildlife sanctuary Frank Lake.

from what I have read about this bird , it is a fairly new addition to the list of birds found in Alberta Canada , with the first recorded sightings back in the early 70's , now there are only a few lakes that it will be found at here but it shows evidence to be spreading to new territory . fortunately for me near by Frank Lake is one of the lakes.

the white faced ibis is a colonial nesting bird the nest sites are found deep in the thick reeds , built using various coarse plant materials and lining the nest with finer materials. after breeding there will be some dispersal of colonies. as a wader it's diet is aquatic invertebrates and amphibians , which it finds by probing the mud of extensive marshland's.

this bird can be found in Alberta from May to September , then winters south in California and Mexico. there are three sites it is known to breed at here in Alberta , Frank Lake , Blizzard Lake , and Pakowki Lake , which is the first lake they where sighted at in 1974.

thanks for stopping in
regards

Hi Art
Wow, I've never seen an Ibis in Alberta before....it's new to me as well. I'm glad to read a good news story for a change. Your Ibis is well captured against the blue sky. Excellent detail, colour and lighting. Good note too.

Hi Art!

Nothing to add - perfect photo of ibis in flight. Great composition and POV, well saturated sky, detailed bird.

Art,

Awesome! It is good to hear that those birds are making a come-back. It also looks like you've used this opportunity very well. Sometimes photographing rare birds, especially in-flight can be very difficult. I had a few occasions like that but just the thought that you're seeing a rare bird fly by makes for shaky pictures! Anyhow, I see no such problems here. You've kept your composure and ended up with great results. Great job.

Best Regards,

Martin

Wonderful grab.
