[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi Folk's , today's upload is of another instar grasshopper , I still have not found a way to distinguish between the stages of grasshopper development other than the fact that this one is lacking any apparent wing appendages suggesting that it is in the first three stages.

the nervous system of a grasshopper is controlled by ganglia , they are present in all sections of the body with a larger grouping in the head which is considered its brain , at the center of which is a neropile that all ganglia channel their signals. the small hairs on the body of the grasshopper are called sensilla , they consist of one sense cell and one nerve cell , and are calibrated to respond to certain stimuli. the majority of these sensilla are located on the head of the grasshopper mainly the antenna and palps. the head also has five eyes , two compound eyes that see colors shapes movements and depth , then three simple eyes that sense light intensity , it is believed these simple eyes provide a sense of up and down by detecting the horizon , mostly used during flight. the antenna are akin to the human nose , but providing more information , odor , touch , humidity ,vibration , wind velocity /direction. there are two sets of palps called the Maxillary palpus and labial palpus having sense of touch taste and temperature. the sense of hearing is provided by the tympanal organs , located in the thorax near the hind legs , these organs are hollow areas with tight membranes sensitive to vibration , the grasshopper is able to distinguish sound directions and distances exactly how is not certain.

I collected this information largely from the wiki , as well as a few other online resources.
