Hello Claudine,
Great action, pose, sharpness and composition in this shot of a White-breasted Nuthatch. I am rather reluctant to use flash myself because of the possible 'night-time effect'. But here the BG is not too dark, though perhaps the nuthatch is a bit too bright but I guess that's a matter of taste and there is an excellent catchlight in the eye. I like the action of tearing the grub away from the crevice in the bark, tearing it in two.

Talk about perfect timing! I don't think I want to join him for lunch though. Love the moment.

Great POV and DOF. The POV is unusual - probably the reason why I love it so much, and terrific job of capturing the catchlight.

a truly rare and precious shot. You even notice the next bit of prey waiting . How you got this one is a mystery to me. My congratulations. Maybe you could darken the bird selectively in PS.

I find it ridiculous to critique perfection!You've got perfect light, perfect timing, perfect sharpness, perfectly unique pose, perfect frame, and given that it's you, my dear friend, Claudine, I'm sure the other technical aspects of this shot are perfect, too!
And I'm only calling a spade, a spade!What more could one ask for in a photograph? Perhaps peep into the frame and smell the air in the shot?
We have a saying in Hindi which roughly translates into leading the Sun with a lamp, which it would be tantamount to, if I even attempted to find a flaw with this shot, Claudine!

Hi Claudine

This is an excellent action shot showing the White-breasted Nuthatch doing
what most birds do all day long, "hunting or searching for food".
This was well spotted with perfect timing to capture the moment.

Great exposure on the subject and making good use of the fill-in flash.
The BG is superbly OOF, the colour rendition is splendid, and the details
are nice and sharp.
