hello dear friends, here is another shot
of the mallard duck in his takeoff,
this is another of my 2006 images

this photo was shot with my Fujifilm compact camera
you'll see that the shutter speed is only 1/60th,
it is because i let the camera shoose it,
if not with this camera i can choose manually
the shutter speed and the aperture,
with my Nikon compact i can not go manually,

one thing that i love of my Fujifilm compact
is that even if i zoom, the aperture stay at 2.8,
with my Nikon compact if i zoom
the aperture it go to 5.3, and with my Fujifilm
bridge camera if i zoom the aperture it go to 4.9

now you see that there is a motion effect
on the image, PLEASE can some one tell me,
how this happen ? CAN WE DO IT manually ?

with the shutter speed 1/60th & the aperture 2.8
i used the FLASH too, it is the combination
of this 3 things that gived the motion effect ?
i am talking about the motion at his head

from the Nova Scotia bird website
here is some notes on the Mallard Duck

No...You cannot stop the background or totally head with one far flash..no way no how. The flash for one thing doesn't go that far even though you see light from it...but the camera panning is WAY WAY fast movement..It is like 100X movement...Anyway the less movement the worse the image..this way it looks great. If you REALLY want to freeze the background and total head then you would have to use a second slave flash. folks do it...usually for money 'cus real good slave flashes as second units with battery packs are much bucks...Great the way it looks. Or you could get one of those Metz flashes..the big honkers...I used to use a Honeywell Strobonar..look it up..It was gray with a long handle and a bracket for attaching to camera..and you could do all sorts of bounce and stuff...Metz makes one like that now but it isn't cheap..

Hi Asbed,

The y wore better and better.
Good practizing,
Nicely done this inflight picture and the Mallard on the good place.

Gert

Hi Asbed.
Well I think if you try this again you need to increase your speed. Not sure if you can do it with that camera. egshannon said it good.
Perhaps you can set your camera to manual, and then study what settings make for action shots. Usually a large aperture, and a fast shutter speed.
You flash may not work over 250/sec.
The in flight shots take lot's of practice. I must take about 100 a week.
Have a nice week.
Note....only the light green smiley, because you have the eyes flashed out haha. Keep doing these and you will get like a pro.

Hi Asbed

I like this shot - there is again, a real feel of movement to it. I am not used to the camera you used, but as others have said, increasing the shutter speed should help.

James

Hi Asbed.
Wonderful in-flight shot of a beautiful mallard. I am very impressed with dark key of execution. Darks are so impressive in the picture as well as great details and timing. My best regards and TFS.
