[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Another landscape from my archives until I can get myself mobile enough to shoot fresh ones -- my apologies :)

When I was a little girl, Lake Ontario was seriously polluted with raw sewage and it got worse. But clean-up efforts have been increasing more and more over the past few years. This photo of the lakefront in Ajax would not have been possible a decade ago. But the lake is slowly getting cleaner. And I want to tell you about just two of the organizations that have helped in that process.

The first is Lake Ontario Waterkeeper which trains individuals and volunteer groups to be local water guardians and to report pollution concerns. They educate the public about Lake Ontario and the Great Lakes Basin and conduct research and public education activities on behalf of the watershed. Each Waterkeeper program is like an environmental neighbourhood watch program. Waterkeepers patrol their local water bodies in a boat, address community concerns, identify threats to clean water, and make use of the legal and democratic processes designed to protect water quality. Waterkeeper also conducts legal and academic research specializing in compliance with Ontario's beach rules, and publishes a regular report card in the summer months.

The other organization is the Waterfront Regeneration Trust. Their biggest project was to create a continuous waterfront trail along the Lake Ontario shoreline. This path is a 780-kilometre (485 mile), virtually continuous trail along the Lake Ontario shoreline, which connects hundreds of parks, historic and cultural sites, wildlife habitats and recreation areas from Niagara on the Lake all the way to the Quebec border.

Tech: I know that the dof is much to shallow here (my mistake for using it on automatic) but I hope that a true sense of the place comes through and yes, that tree was quite reddish.

Hi Silke,
quite the symbol of hope then, this young tree. We don't get views like this over lakes here, could almost be a seascape! Nice light and details, hope you're up and about soon :o)

Hello Silke,
When I was in Ontario a long time ago I remember lake Ontario in this same spring light, the same colour of the water and the leaves just beginning to burst. Somewhere nearby a Red-winged Blackbird was singing its long drawn-out squeeling song.
This is a fine simple image but for me its the strong lighting that evokes old memories!

This is a nice image and a hopeful story. Just when people start to wake up and get into gear to save the environment we get hit with global warming. **sigh** I hope we'll have something left to save.

Hello Silke,
Beautiful composition showing us Lake Ontario that rather looks like a big ocean! I like the tree in bud and the stones in the foreground. Beautiful colours too. I think people everywhere are becoming aware of the need to maintain our environment - but there is soooo much to be done! This sounds like a fine effort though.

Hi Silke,

This is a scene I never get to see unless I travel. The lake looks very beautiful with the tree in the foreground. It looks like the water goes on forever. I love the all the shades of blue in the sky and in the water. Everything looks so peaceful.

Hi Silke. What a beautiful view over the lake. i like the compostion with the tree slightly to the left of the picture. Good use of the light to give natural colours. All with good notes.. Well done TFS.

Simple but very nice subject and excellent picture. You managed to create 3D-image of the scene with natural pleasant colours and lights, perfect DOF and details of the entire scene. My brother live in Canada (Toronto) now and dreams to move on the Ontario Lake shore. My kind regards and TFS.
