Lightning

I know this isn't the best image but it shows how lightning doesn't come to earth in a straight line. I was standing inside the house to take this shot. I didn't want to be standing outside during the storm. Sorry about the houses being the photo, it couldn't be helped this time.

A few facts about lightning.
Lightning can strike up to 10 miles or 16 kilometers away from the actual centre of a thunderstorm.

Rubber shoes do nothing to protect you if hit by lightning.

Talking on the telephone is the leading cause of injury inside the home.

Standing under a tree during a thunderstorm is one of the most dangerous to take shelter. Lightning can actually shatter a tree sending splinters and tree parts at a high velocity.

Since lightning is a huge discharge of electricity, the bolt can reach up to five miles.

Lightning can raise the air temperature by 50,000 degrees F

Some scientist believe that lightning may have played a part in the evolution of living organisms on earth. The energy given off has been found to convert elements into compounds that are found in living organisms.

Lightning can also form from volcanic eruptions, forest fires, snowstorms and hurricanes.

If your hair stands up in a storm, it could mean that a positive charge will be rising through you. This isn't a good sign...get indoors immediately.

Well I am impressed, Janice. Great timing on your part. However did you do it? It sure took a circuitous route! Really cool!

Great shot, every lightning shot is a good one. These shots are very hard to get. The bolt is very clear and shows what mother nature can do. Good job!

Hi Janice

Good shot of the lightning Janice. Isn't it so interesting to see how it twists and turns in the sky.
Well done
Janice

Janice,
qaulity may not be perfect here but the time is right on. It's amazing really to captured the lighting from the origiated point to the horizon. Well done. Very dramatic, and I nearly head the roar. Thanks
Way

Hello Janice,

Great moment, the line of lightning is always unique and interesting. It is a good photo. Very clear.

All the best, Cezar T.

Hi Janice,
Now I am in envy. I did manage to capture lightning before, but never such an awesome bold. The way it created this wonderful curved path and the fact that you managed to capture it is awesome. Now tell me, how many shots were needed to capture this one?
TFS,
Niek
