Hi folks , this is my second upload from the Alberta badlands , in this photo I tried to used the road for lines and depth , but also as somewhat of a statement.

this is the Red Deer River Valley , this sight is older than the the formations found in horse shoe canyon , and in these hills there is a greater likely hood of discovering dinosaur fossils , the hills shown here are now marked as no trespassing land , in an effort to discourage folks who come to the badlands of the mind that they are going to find fossils , these hills are a scientific treasure of evolutionary information. I am not sure of the exact time lines of the area , but know that the more pale lines are times when the area was arid and dry , and the darker lines are from more lush and fertile periods , the dark black lines the area was believed to be wetlands.

though marked as a no trespassing area , I did avail myself the opportunity to take one of the pathways up to the farm land atop this valley , I was a bit dismayed to find motorized dirt bike tracks along the way. I feel it is good for me to say that I treated the area with its due respect , did not move any of the stones even if they looked interesting , this is an area of scientific discovery and is due a very high level of respect.

though perhaps it may sound a bit negative of me to say , between this highway , the campgrounds , the golf coarse and go cart track up the way , and the many parents encouraging their children to 'look for dino bones' I cant help but to feel it is in our nature as humans to be unable to give this natural treasure its due. but I stayed at one of them campgrounds so I guess who am I to talk....

thanks for stopping in

regards
Art

hi art,
great clous, sky and the valley behind. i appreciate your notes much than the image itself. i would have composed same shot from the far end of the road, giving more importance to the hills and great sky with clouds still using the road lines. tfs.

Hi Art!

One of most fascinating things in North America is monumentalism of nature there. Big mountains, longest valleys, highest trees... and places like this one. Absolutelly fantastic shot with very good looking mountains and blue sky. Even highway is not disturbing - it is well composed with rest subjects of your photo.
