hello dear friends, here is another image shot at that
little nature park where is the pond near my home,

this image is one of my first shots with my new camera,
my new compact camera has a 5x zoom (36-180mm)
when i am in 8 megapixels,

if i shoot in 5 megapixels my zoom become 6x (216mm),
in this image i passed to 5 megapixels
to have a 6x (216mm) zoom

from the Hinterland Who's Who website
here is some notes on the Marmot :

http://www.hww.ca/hww2.asp?id=109

« The woodchuck Marmota monax—sometimes called groundhog—
is a rodent and belongs to the large group of mammals Rodentia,
which includes squirrels, prairie dogs, and chipmunks. Within this
large group the woodchuck is considered one of the marmots.

Among North American rodents, only beavers and porcupines
are larger than the marmots. Woodchucks are stocky little animals
with a flattened head. They commonly weigh 2 to 4 kg,
and large ones may be heavier in the autumn. They measure
40 to 65 cm total length, including a short bushy tail about
15 cm long. Fur colour varies from place to place and between
individual animals. It ranges from yellowish to dark reddish brown,
with an intermediate brown colour being the most common shade.
The fur is usually grizzled in appearance because
of light-coloured tips on the hairs. The belly fur is
commonly straw-coloured and the feet black.

Woodchucks are occasionally found with melanistic or albino fur.
The fur of melanistic specimens is completely black. Albinos,
on the other hand, have no colour in their fur at all, and even
their eyes lack pigmentation, merely showing a pinkish tinge
from blood vessels near the surface. Being white,
they are conspicuous, and usually fall easily to predators.

Because woodchucks are burrowing mammals, their feet
have sturdy claws and their legs are thick and strong.
Their forefeet, the principal ones used for digging, each have
four well developed claws, and the hind feet have five.
They escape from enemies by diving into burrows,
which may account for the fact that their top running
speed does not exceed 15 km per hour.

A close relative of the woodchuck’s, the hoary marmot or whistler,
lives in the mountains of western North America, from Washington,
Idaho, and Montana northward into Yukon and Alaska.
It inhabits tundra, alpine meadows, and rock slides in mountains.
Two other marmots, very closely related to the hoary marmot,
but differing from it in colour, live only on high portions
of Vancouver Island and the Olympic Peninsula. The rockchuck,
or yellow-bellied marmot, found from California, Texas,
and New Mexico to British Columbia and southwestern Alberta,
is another close woodchuck relative. Where the woodchuck
is brownish, this somewhat smaller cousin tends to be yellowish.
It favours rockier country and higher elevations (over 3 000 m)
than the woodchuck, but it is also found on agricultural land
in foothills and valleys.

Scientists recognize as many as nine varieties or subspecies
of woodchuck, mainly based on subtle differences
in colour or skull characteristics. »

merci

Your new camera is analogous to having cataract surgery. Now only a person who has had it done in both eyes after in my case degraded to barely able to see enough to drive in daytime more or less night...it is also similar to going from an old CRT Cathode Ray tube to an LCD of good quality. those things make big changes...and in your case it has brought your quality heartfelt images up a few notches...not just one....this is an amazing shot and if I had saw it without knowing who took it...I could never have guesses..The ball game has changed. You are in for a lot of fun..and me, I can only speak for myself...but now I look even more forward to your posts.

Hi Asbed,

I forgot to congratulate on your new camera. Didn't take you any time at all to adjust to it. You are getting great pictures with your Nikon. This Marmot looks so cute sitting in the grass. Colors are wonderful and I love the nose and eye. I wish I had a park like that near my house.

Hello Asbed,
An excellent portrait of a Marmot that couldn't be sharper and the contrast with the grassy BG is ideal. You have used your new toy well in this fine and well composed image.

Hallo Asbed
An admirable, adorable and very cute photograph. A real fluff ball that one would just want to pamper and oh and ah about. You have managed to capture a very special moment showing us this little guy from a very close point. A well presented, well focused image with clear details and good point of view. I liked this one a lot! The green grass as your background adds to emphasise the furry details of the marmot. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards
Anna

Hello Asbed,
Nice to see this marmot the way it has been shot by you. I have also seen them but at an altitude of 14,000 feet and above in Himalayas. They grow as big as full size fox. TFS.

Hi Asbed,

The marmot does not seem to be scare by the photographer. The point of view is allowing to see the details and colors of the animal. The picture is clear and sharp. The colors are enhanced by the good light. Have anice day.
