Hi Folks , today's upload is a photo of the fossil remains of a Mammoth , found in the Royal Tyrrell Museum of paleontology.

as a museum exhibit I am feeling a bit sketchy on this upload , and hope the moderator will not make this my first 'removed' photo :-) but seeing as this species is long extinct there is not much chance to capture its image in nature , and it most certainly is a part of our natures past.

though not as fantastic as the earlier period dinosaurs such as the T-Rex , this prehistoric creature does have one very imagination inspiring edge , it shared the world with prehistoric man.

a great series of books written about this era of time is called the Earth's Children series by Jean M. Auel. beginning with The Clan of the Cave Bear. a historical fictional series , which took place at a time that the Neanderthal and modern Cro-magnon humans coexisted. the last book in the series , called the Mammoth Hunters is based along the lines of the theory that human hunting practices where a contributing factor in the extinction of the Mammoth elephant , other beliefs as to why this great creature went extinct are climatic changes and disease.

thanks for stopping in
regards

Yikes... an anorexic mastadon!! unusual shot, don't get to see this type of image here, so this is a worthy addition...

Nice specimen.
Nice pose and composition.

Yet the pic is slightly underexposed.
Also the shadows created by the flash are ugly. Two ways to avoid that:
- a powerful and orientable flash to flash indirectly.
- Using the actual light, by making a white balance, using a tripod, and disabling the flash.
