Ant & Aphid
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Hi folks , today I have this image of an ant / aphid relationship , the ant is feeding on the aphids , or more specifically the excretions from the aphids as they eat the plants. I have read that ants are also known to move the aphids to better food supplies to continue feeding on them , boy I sure would like to see that happening and get a photo of it :-) , it seems to me that the aphid also gains the benefit of having the ants clean up for them too ...
thanks for stopping in
regards

Hej Art,
TFS and regards

Hello Art!
What an educational picture and also a good techincal image. I like his non-commercial photo - the ants are not very common here in TN gallery so every single image is interesting.
Nice for watching Art!
TFS and all the best!
Friendly yours,
Radomir
Hi Art, the have a mutualistic relationship, the ants keep the aphids as "ant cows" and massage them to produce honeydew.. the aphids produce this when the phloem is sucked up!!.. In return, the aphids get protection from predators. Queen ants have been known to take a fresh aphid with them when starting a new colony.. Great work to get this, |I do like a good ant picture, I uploaded a similar image as yours, but this is far better... excellent colours, details and sharpness... fine work indeed...
