hello, the apprentice is me and the master is Gert the duckman :

http://www.treknature.com/members/ellis49/

when first i became TN new member in april - may 2007,
i was in admiration on ducks in-flight photos shooted by Gert,
since that time and even before that i always wanted
to do similar photos of ducks in their flight

this summer i had done the best choice by buying
a small point & Shoot digital camera, the Nikon Coolpix P60
and my dream became reality, of course my photos
are not as beautiful and superb like Gert's ones,
but i started to do bird photos, specially ducks, in flight,
something that always loved and wanted to do

yesterday the Master duckman posted a superb image :

http://www.treknature.com/gallery/photo189445.htm

today, i the apprentice duckman decide to post
an almost similar in-flight shot like the Master's one

in this image because the focus was succesful
i did an very importing cropping, to had the duck closer,
i also gived Levels, blur at the background to remove
digital noise, and then i gived sharpening,
worked with Photoshop, ImageReady and Fireworks

from the Seattle Audubon Society website :

http://www.birdweb.org/birdweb/bird_details.aspx?id=68

« Perhaps the most familiar duck in the Northwest, the Mallard
is a large and heavy bird. Males have gray bodies with
chestnut-brown breasts, white collars, iridescent-green heads,
and yellow bills. Females are mottled brown-and-black with lighter
brown heads and necks and yellow bills mottled with black.
They have a black stripe running horizontally through the eye.
Both sexes have orange feet and a blue speculum, or wing-patch,
bordered in white on two sides, best seen in flight. From June
to September, immatures and males, which are then in
non-breeding (eclipse) plumage, look much like females »

Merci

Asbed

Hi Asbed, a little blurry, but splendid fly and wonderful warm colors, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Asbed
The most of us are apprentices in comparison with Gert. He is the master of “Mallard-in-flight” shots. I do appreciate your dedication to Gert by means of your image. I personally believe anybody succeeding to photograph any kind of bird in flight ought to have an all round applause. Therefore you as well as Gert deserve all the appreciative feedback given for such a worthy image. Thanks for your effort and thanks for the end result.
Kind regards.
Anna – Another apprentice in training.

Hello Asbed,

Hi Asbed,

There is no doubt that Gert is the King of the Flying Ducks. There is no one better to learn from. Neither your equipment (nor mine) nor your duck equals Gert's but it's darn good. The rich colors are wonderful, the face is fantastic with a great eye, details of the wings and plummage are good. You froze this duck in a super position - I love seeing both sides of the wings. You are getting better, and better, and better.

Jane

Hi Asbed, great 3-D effect and superb capture of this beautiful mallard in-flight with splendid details and colours.
TFS and cheers,
Bayram

Ciao Asbed,
spettacolare cattura in volo, eccezionale tempismo, eccellenti POV e composizione con BG in leggero panning, ottima definizione con straordinari dettagli, splendidi i colori. A great job.
TFS.

You give me some courage that I can do this with a P&S, but I also think you are much more patient than I am...not that I am impatient...just that walking and working with my pains can be very distracting...and fills my mind..pain is no fun so when I get a good image as this in and through the pain it is all worth the effort..and when people GENUINELY like what I have done then it gives me heart...and that is what I like to pass on to you....
Bob

Hi Asbed,
I share your enthusiasm for photos that show birds in flight and action shots of all sorts as well. There is some softness to this photo and the trick is to follow the bird even while the shutter is tripping and keep the movement of the camera smooth and even in the panning. She is a nice looking duck and has good colour and the crop gives a nice pov for the image. Thanks Asbed for this image as believe it or not I have yet to try a shot of a mallard in flight. The image of a mallard in flight is iconic and seen the world over. Bob

Hi Asbed

You are braver than me Asbed - a little blurred but an very good shot nontheless.

Hi Asbed,
thanks for this nice picture and for your very kind words.
With your own technique you manage to take very good in-flight shots with your P/S camera. I can assure you, I have tried
a lot of time to shoot with my old Canon S1 but I gave up,
I didn't get this good anytime, agree what Jon say, your are
the duck master with a P/S camera.
The picture is pretty sharp with fine details and well composed.
Well done, my friend.
/Gert

Another great capture in flight from the Celtic Ranger. :) Always enjoy seeing your "in flight" images. Well done Asbed. TFS

In flight shots are your specialty. Wonderful work yet again!
I haven't managed anything like this and I'm almost afraid to try. These are difficult shot but you've mastered them! Good work!!!

Hi Asbed

I admire your patience in trying to perfect this art, I haven't got the hang of panning yet. You caught your mallard in a lovely pose and the light looks beautiful. Well done and keep up the hard work!
