"Koala Bear".

When is a bear not a bear? When it is a Koala.
Koalas are marsupials like
kangaroos.

What is a Marsupial? They are pouched mammals whose babies are born in an undeveloped state; the young then attach themselves to their mother's nipple.
Koalas live in Eucalyptus forests which is their primary source of food located in the Southern & Eastern part of Australia.
Eucalyptus leaves are fibrous and highly toxic. Koalas have special cheek teeth that grind the leaves into a paste which is digested by microbes in their very long intestine. Their diet does not provide much energy, so koalas spend a lot of time... sleeping.
Koalas usually mate in Australian spring/summer (September-March). The gestation is 35 days. Females are mature in 2 years. They usually have 1 baby a year. The new born "joey" in underdeveloped. It crawls through the mother's fur to her pouch to nurse for 6 months. After leaving the pouch it rides on its mother's belly and later on its back. During weaning, the joey feeds on "pap", a liquid form of the mother's feces which provides the digestive system with organisms to help digest eucalyptus leaves. The joey usually stays with its mother for about a year until the next joey leaves the pouch.
Have a good look at its paw. With those claws one would think it could defend itself even from a pack of "dingos" = wild Australian dogs; not so fast. They do have ENEMIES. Feral cats and man are their worst enemies.

Hi Mario, dear friend.
Nice presentation of the cute animal. Especially I like impressive surroundings despite they are not natural. Excellent DOF and details of the koala, tree branches and fresh green leaves. I am not sure only that white balance is correct. Is the yellow shades natural?. In any case very good and touching picture as well as perfectly detailed note. Lind regards and TFS.
Alexei.

Hi Mario, Good upward POV to show this koala in the tree. This one looks very sleepy, as they often do. Supposedly they get a bit intoxicated from the gum leaves fermenting in their tummy! TFS. Murray.

It is almost so cute it looks unreal as if coming from a store display. How wonderful mario and may he bless you on this Holy weekend.
