[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Yesterday I took a walk long enough to fill my 8 gig cf card and during that time I photoed many different creatures and the eagle you see in this photograph.I had spotted it a long ways off from where I was standing and decided that I would walk towards where it was in an effort to get near enough for some good detail, well it didn't work out as I had hoped for.I made it a quarter of the way to where it was perched in a tree when it suddenly flew off towards me,while I was amongst dogwood and willow bushes, undaunted I tried to photo this great bird through the the branches that were all around me and because the branches were in my way the light on the bird and the focus were not the best and as a result the animal looks sort of like an oil painting. This effect I didn't plan on or expect but I think in it's way it looks "artistic".I cropped and resized this photo and desaturated the colour a little using Paint.Net.I sometimes find that a photo looks to garish if the colour is set to high so I will tone it down somewhat. It is better to be a little over saturated as it is easier to tone down colour that to bring it up and have it look natural. The high the iso in my experience the poorer looking colour will be as it becomes somewhat ashen in apperance, which for me is not a good thing. If any of you good people have any tips on how to do proper colour, please let me and everyone else know as well. This photo doesn't show well the reality of how the light was at the time-it was a glorious and beautifully sunny day yesterday with a soft and pastel looking sky especially in the morning.Springtime light is a softer light, summer has more strength and is harsher in the afternoon, fall gives an acid clear bite to scenes and winter is just plain beautiful, but hard to deal with all the snow in my area of the world.I hope you enjoy my "painting" and get some of your own happy accidents as well.Have a good weekend. Bob

Hello Bob! Wonderful shot. Dynamic capture. Great effect. Good luck!

Bob,
OUTSTANDING.
Greetings from Mario in Calgary.

Hi Bob
I like any kind of images of big birds of prey and the Eagle is my favorite. That is a net affected that you have here and it dos kind of look like a oil painting. The last couple days I have been going to the lake were I have been watching 6 Osprey. A couple of them of started a new nest and they have really been putting on a show. I love seeing these big birds. Well done, Bob and TFS.
Tom

Under the diffused illumination of a partly cloudy day, you've produced a pleasant image of this Bald Eagle on the wing slightly in a soft-focus effect Bob, thank you indeed for this eye-soothing tableau my friend.
Cheers,
Mehmet

They are SO VERY hard to get close in...I have tried and tried...I have had many opportunities and this is as good as I have been able to get...maybe even a notch better...Very nice!
Bob

It's funny Bob, I do the opposite of you, I take the picture with "normal" saturation and add more if need be because I find it easier and the result is better to my eye! You are also able to reduce it without damaging the sharpness and brightness of the colours. Like you, I think too much saturation keeps natural feeling away but sometimes, it can add sparkle and life, depending on the subject and mood you want to create. I am surprised that this picture was shot in full sun, it looks like a grey day except for the sky at the top of the frame. I think that the flight of the eagle is beautiful, the colours may be a little "mute". Also, I noticed that sometimes when we reduce noise, it takes away too much sharpness and it seems like it is the case here. Did you use a noise reduction software? We see noise under the wings, maybe it was too dark and you brighten it a little, that's what it does. Yet, as you say, there is a nice touch to this, with the colours like a painting, an old painting, reminder of the fifties, something like that don't you think? By the way, I haven't been active lately on TN but I have to say that you have wonderful pictures! Congratulations, you're becoming a more mature photographer,

Francine
