The Badlands
The early explorers and settlers named the Badlands because they were very bad to travel through. The Badlands and known for extreme hot temperatures in the summer and cold temperatures in the winter. As well, the Badlands are filled with Rattlesnakes, Cacti, Scorpions, poisonous Spiders and a landscape which is very rough and rugged to travel in.
The different colours in the hills are created by different geological periods in time, and erosion which has occurred over the years, have created beautiful hoodoos and sculptured hills.
I find the Badlands both beautiful and captivating. The river valley is filled with trees and shrubs and is a mecca for attracting many species of birds and mammals. We saw many insects this day including ants, flies, and spiders.

I am seeing this for the first time and wondering...does it perhaps have something to do with the Missoula Ice Dam? If so I would not be surprised..I am now just calling Jane to come and look and since I have set her up with a computer she may be able to tel me more..but this has great geologic significance!

Exposure, focus and DOF are excellent. But what I like is the light. It also gives a nice contrast helping to convey a 3-D feeling. The different colours you mention actually give a lot of perpective to this landscape and lend an excellent 3-D effect.
Excellent landscape composed with basic but effective composition rules.
Very well done, Janice!
Cheers!

Hello neighbour,
I like this image quite a lot.
It is a lovely place to visit.
This image makes one "feel" to travel to it.
Warm regards,
Mario from Calgary.
