Hi Folks , today I have this image of a flower spider having its meal time in the folds of a newly blooming Alberta Wild Rose. It is a Goldenrod Crab spider , a very camouflaged spider that waits on flowers for unwary insects to feed upon. This one is my first seen this year , and was quite small, to my eyes its prey looked like an ant until closer viewing.
Trying to take only natural light macro images this year I encountered difficulties with the wind which was quite blustery today , not only was the flower swaying in the wind but overhead foliage was also frequently interrupting the sunlight. I am sure that I could have found other flower spiders today , but I really liked the lighting for this scene , so much of the illumination was cast through the flowers petals that it made for no shadows with a bit of back light.
thanks for stopping in...
regards
