hello friends in French :
« La Belle au Bois Dormant »

from my winter 2009 archives here is
a photo of the Northern Saw-whet Owl

from All About Birds website :

http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Northern_Saw-whet_Owl/lifehistory

« A small owl of all types of woodlands,
the Northern Saw-whet Owl can be found roosting
in winter in small, dense conifer trees, sometimes even
in parks and gardens. Its defense upon discovery is to sit
still and not fly, leading people to perceive them as "tame."

While the female saw-whet broods her nestlings,
she keeps the nest cavity very clean. But, when the
young are about 18 days old, she starts spending
the night in another hole, and then the dirt starts
to accumulate. When the young owls leave the nest
after another ten days to two weeks, the nest cavity
has a thick layer of feces, pellets, and rotting prey parts. »

Merci

Hi Asbed
The only time I see an Owl is sometimes just before dark I see one flying low across a pasture...Too dark and far for a photo...Four years ago a male would sit in a tree outside my bedroom window and hoot for hours but haven't heard from him since then...Beautiful birds and you were lucky to catch one in the daytime...TFS

Hi Asbed.
After my long absence, I am glad to welcome you. Very cute natural shot with brilliant exposure and details of the tree branches and sleeping bird. Despite the difficult for shooting subject you managed to create a high quality image. My compliments and kind regards.
Alexei.

Hi Asbed, not easy a good result like that in this terrible backlight! You manage very well the time of exposure for a very very nice result.I'm trying to make in-flight pics like yours but the results are orribles..ehehe..but will come a day! And will be just for you! Have a nice day,LUCIANO

Hi Asbed,

A strange and natural Picture. It break some rules of exposure and composition. But that is not relevant when the overall photo conveys a moment. You´re obviates the usual parameters and arrive to capture the moment in the picture. That and more has been achieved with this picture. Congratulations friend Asbed, shots like this bring us closer to nature in a very sensitive way.

Bonjour Asbed,

Les branches cadrent bien le hibou. La prise de vue permet de voir les détail et les couleurs d'une partie de l'oiseau. L'image est claire et nette. L'utilisation du flash aide ^piur faire ressortir les détails. Bonne journée.
