[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is my Lady Ruby Meadowhawk.

After fighting a cold, I was able to go out with my 9
year old Son and shoot some critters. I gave Nathan the S5000 to use and he went nuts shooting all kinds of critters. He found that's it's not as easy as it looks. He did well his first time out. All his meadowhawks didn't turn out, however, some lady beetles turned out pretty good. He listened well when I explained to him about the camera etc. when we viewed the pics at home. Next time out, he'll put that into use as he has understood composition. It's funny, he was sitting in an area and about 4 meadowhawks were in reach, he said that he was within inches to capture them and they didn't move. I missed out on a good shot. I should have taken shots of him shooting critters. Ah, next time. I'm not sure if the cam would have picked up on the hawks and one bluet. It was cute though.
In this spot during our time with the meadowhawks, only the females were seen. We only picked up on one male and he was in another area, about 100 yards away.

This lady was captured using the 20D and 17-85mm IS set at 85mm macro.
1/40 at F9.0 which is what I opted for.

In photoshop elements 2, crop, resize for web, usm, frames.

Looks just perfect.

I like the parallel droopiness of wings and leaves. This insect looks quite sad, I'm afraid. Nice capture and lovely details, though it might be nice to have all of the wings in focus. Swell work, Mike.

PS:I got very good results with D20 and built-in flash using Manuel mode,ISO-400,F22,1/250 at 40-45cm distance during low light conditions or at shadow.
