Superb Starling
Lamprotornis superbus

Physical Characterics:
Head-Body Length:

Identification:
The exact color and markings of the superb starling can vary. However, they are usually a glossy black/blue/green color with white eyes. It has a white breast band and a chestnut breast and stomach.
Geographic Range:
Northeastern Africa
Habitat:
Woodlands, thorny bush, acacia country, urban areas
Diet:
Omnivore: insects, berries, human refuse
Reproduction:
The breeding season for these birds varies. Both parents incubate their 4 eggs and care for the chicks.
Social Structure:
Superb starlings feed in groups on the ground. They are found in small groups but they never flock.
Behaviour:
The superb starling spends hot hours resting, preening, and singing softly in a leafy tree.

No special status
Interesting Facts:
When singing the superb starling often mimics other birds.

Great coloured plumage on this bird. Good POV. The looks to be some noise in this shot, but I am working on my notebook and sometimes it doesn't give me the correct colours etc. Nice work anyway. Thanks.

Suberb is rightly named Manyee. Just stunning - one of the brightest birds I think I've seen. The colours are so irridescent. Good composition and the details and colours are "superb". Well done.

Hello Manyee,

Superb colors on this one. Well composed and a great POV. The Bg seems to be abit grainy and the focus on the head looks a wee bit soft but other than that this is very nice. What are the colors on the ground? Those colors look marvelous. Well composed also. Well done & TFS!

Great shot, Manyee. The colours are absolutely beautiful, especially the deep blue around the neck. Excellent detail and good depth of field. Well captured.

Not bad for a zoo shot, but I have to agree with Pieter, there is a bit of background noise that could have easily been removed and the focus is a bit soft. Seeing as you didn't fill in the exposure details its a bit hard to advise anything.
The colour in the wild is probably linked to diet. The better the diet, the better the plumage.

Nice capture of this colourful critter. Good POV and DOF, maybe oversharpened a fraction. I'd be tempted to clone out the "man made" fencing? in the top left corner and the bright triangle in the top right corner, as this would make the photo more "nature like" ;-)
