On the same day of the calico pennant and goose portrait.

I was excited to have captured this Spreadwing as I don't see them much, at least I thought so, until last night when swimming with the kids. I saw lots flying over the water and near the peer/dock.

Yep, it's not my best and maybe I should have left it out, but, a good posting for discussion on what could have been improved, especially for those new to photography.
Why not, this site should be educational, helpful to those who want to improve, including myself and everyone else who can lay down their pride. Let's be a happy family and have some beers, coke and whatever else suites our fancy and discuss images. Next time we are out on the field, we will remember things and put it to use.

For discussion purposes if you wish.
I could have gone with a F14-16
Although I liked the POV and lighting on this one.
On my wish list, a better glass. LOL

Hi Mike, nice shot. This looks alot like Lestes sp. damselflies but I'm not sure you get them there...I'll have to do a check on that.

Compositionally it's a nicely balanced shot. I think the damsel has been oversharpened a little - which is most evident on the head area wing bases. The BG isn't perfect but I think you did a god job with it. I'm not at all bothered about the wings tips and abdomen being sligtly oof as the eye is drawn to the head and then the rest. It a classical pose of the genus...and the common name!

Well done.

Fantastic color and sharpness Mike. Well balanced photograph with great BG.

Mike, above all, a very beautiful picture.

I enjoy lighting too. I guess I's not try f/14 or 16.

I like pov and composition too. The bg doesnt' bother me.

yes I agree with Paul a little oversharped,
but I have to say, a fantastic colours, and a good dof, very good composition, with a fantastic frame, I think you did a great job here Mike.

Hello Mike,

I have much respect for these shots, as I can't seem to pin one down myself.

True, "it is not your best", but well worth posting at any rate.

Great composition, colors, BG, and I really like the frame on this one, go figure.

Thank you once again.

Make mine without ice, please...

Very nice shot Mike,
Good detail and good POV. Nicely exposed and good colours. Good composition. Great DOF and BG. The only thing I'm not keen on is the outer border of the frame! sorry for being fussy, the damselfly is great though.
Well captured, thanks for posting.

Very good macro, Mike.
It looks like a lestes sponsa, quite similar that I posted for two days ago.
Well composed, nice colors, good DOF and POV.
It's slightly oversharped as Paul mention.
Very well done, my friend.

Great composition Mike. Quality as you said isn't best but overall picture looks good. I like this kind of damselflies - they're very fragile and beautifull.

Hello Mike!
Very nice capture. You were not paralel to him but got enaugh DOF.Sharpness, details, blurred BG are wonderful as well.TFS...:-)

Good shot Mike!
I think the whole looks very interesting -the pose of the d'fly, composition and nice BG makes it, so the only thing I would've changed is the quality. The focus on the d'fly body is quite soft and some places are oversharpened what makes a bit unnatural look.
Overall, the quality isn't perfect, but I like the photo very much.
WELL DONE & TFS
