The Universe contain hundreds of billion of galaxies and each galaxy contains hundred of billions of stars ( ± like the Sun ). This is the summer milkyway , Mars ( the bright orange " star " ) show exactly the center of our galaxy named Milkyway . At the speed of light ( 186,000 miles / second ) you can reach the Moon in 1.5 seconds , the Sun in 8 minutes and the center of our galaxy in 28,000 years !!! Unfortunately , we can't see the milkyway in big cities , due to the ligh polution ... we have to go to country. To prevent the star trails , I put my camera on my telescope and turn "on" the drive-motor(in astronomy , we call that technique "piggyback ") photo details: 28 mm @ f 4 , 20 minutes exposure , Kodak supra 400 p.s: the dark shadow at bottom is a mountain.

Space fascinates me, the distances and times involved are almost impossible to imagine and comprehend. Your image shows the beauty of our galaxy, and the technical details of how you took it are every bit as interesting as the picture!
Well done for it's clarity and for sharing this sight that very few of us have the chance to see.
Kind regards, Vicky

Superb photo Dominic! 20 min exposure seems to be just right to see so many stars on Milky Way and red god of war itself ;-) I like it very much!

WOW! I knew it was possible to capture such views with your own equipment, but I've never seen it. This is a wondrous sight. A very useful note, as well, for those who might be tempted to try it themselves. Thanks very much for sharing it with us.
p.s. How far were you from 'civilisation' and artificial lights?

Continue Dominic. Lâche pas!
J'adore tes photos.

Luc
