[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Empty nests of Double-crested cormorants. Photo taken at Tommy Thompson Park located on a man-made peninsula that extends five kilometres into Lake Ontario
According to an email I received from TRCA, there are “just under 6000 breading pairs of DCCO that nest at Tommy Thompson Park. Assuming 2 per nest and an average chick production rate of 2 chicks per nest, this puts the population at approximately 24,000 individual birds. This does not include non-nesting juvenile birds."
The tree in the foreground, like all the trees nearby is dead, killed by the accumulation of cormorant guano, which is highly acidic, and removal of foliage for nesting material.

Award winning sky Daniel! Rich colors highlight the CN tower. The water colored by the sky gives us an idea of how far away we are from the CN tower. Excellent DOF and POV!
