American Robin

We found this robin carrying food in one of the paradise for bird watchers in North America.

Unique in the World! Dinosaur Provincial Park, declared a world Heritage Site in 1979, has recorded over 160 different bird species, including several of Canada’s threatened or endangered species. Due to the variety of habitats present, the park offers superb bird watching opportunities. A large area of the park has been set aside as a Natural Preserve, providing an isolated and relatively undisturbed nesting area for threatened species like the Ferruginous Hawk, Golden Eagle and Loggerhead Shrike. Access to the Preserve is limited to visitors participating in conducted tours and to those authorized to conduct research.

Dinosaur Provincial Park helps preserve a part of the Grassland Natural Region which is characterized by cold winters, warm summers, high winds and low precipitation. The region is a flat to gently rolling plain with a few major hill systems, punctuated by exposed bedrock, carved sandstone cliffs, ancient boulders and other reminders of the last ice age. Where wind and water have carved the bedrock, unique landscapes known as badlands exist. Plants have adapted to the severe moisture shortage of mid-to-late summer.

Dinosaur Provincial Park is located in the Dry Mixedgrass Sub-region of the Grassland Natural Region. This is the warmest and driest sub-region in Alberta. Permanent streams are relatively rare, though the ones that do exist are deeply carved into the bedrock in some places. This has exposed Cretaceous shales and sandstones, creating extensive badlands in some areas.

Park Habitats Three major habitats are found at Dinosaur Provincial Park: the upland prairie, the badlands and one of the largest protected stretches of Plains Cottonwood, river valley habitat. Each habitat provides nesting and feeding sites for different species of birds. By protecting important bird habitats, the significance of Dinosaur Provincial Park goes beyond a long list of birds. The rugged badlands terrain in the natural preserve provides critical undisturbed nesting areas for raptors. The riparian habitat, where many of the birds nest and feed, is now a threatened environment on the prairies. The prairie, home to many birds typical of grasslands, are disappearing fast. We must ensure that these habitats are protected for the future.

Hello Stephan, this is a nice shot. I love the pose with all the bugs in its beak. The sharpness is good but I do feel you could have a little more saturation here and the composition could be improved with a little more space above the head and a little less space behind it. It's a very good capture though.

God quality. Very sharp and excellent colours. I don't know about the orignal pic, but maybe cropped more on the sides and less at bottom and top would made it even a better picture.

Great shot Stephan. Great colors, light and details. It looks almost as if the bird has two types of insects in its beak?
A bit tight on top but I know from experience these small birds are a pain to compose in the field when you're just trying to get the shot. Well done. Thank You.

I agree with Gert about the top being a bit too closely cropped, however, it isn't always easy to get them to stay still long enough to make everything perfect.

Apart from that, this is indeed a great shot.

Excellent lighting, pov and sharpness.

Excellent shot! This is so lovely. Colors are great, exposure is spot on and the details are sharp. Lovely background aswell. Composition-wise I would have left a bit more space on the left and a bit less on the right. Well done & TFS!
