This is a very nice image Niek. I like the repetition of the horizontals. When you apply contrast to an image be sure to check the sky carefully. I have discovered that when too much contrast has been applied to a sky is gets a sort of washed out unnatural turquoise color. Sometimes I have to isolate the parts of the image on which I want the contrast increased.

I have spent many summer vacations boating in the waters off Vancouver Island...mostly between the island the mainland. I know all too well the perfume of which you speak! I must have hundreds of photos of that area and not a one is digital. Even the negatives have lost some color now! sob :º (

Hi Niek
No rule of thirds to apply here, because you cannot equally divide 7 into 3. Step by step it takes you deeper into the photo.
The composition is good and you managed good colour on the seals. Showing them doing what the spend most of the day doing. Lying about the rocks enjoying the sun. The DOF is good and it displays good details throughout.

I agree that the horizintal layers of water, rock, hills and sky add great depth to this shot. Great POV of the seals from the water.

Hi Niek,
I read your note and disagree, I really like this shot. Excellent POV and good sharp detail. I really like the 'layered' effect where you have four layers from water to sky, with the seals in the middle. A great shot.

Details in the shadows are underexposed. The best think would probably have been a little cloud in front of the sun. Not really possible to correct this with some PP work.
But I actually don't mind much. The pic is great. Unusual POV.

I like the four layers , water , Seals, trees and then sky . The photograph is very sharp , maybe too sharp ?
It is interesting to notice that they have a smell,because I didn't notice that with seals around here on the east coast. Jim

Well I was looking at other seal shots and I came across one of yours that I think is an excellent capture. I had just recently posted some Harbor Seals but apparently it didn't really appeal to that many viewers. I'm guessing either it was a bad picture or people dont really care for them. I think they're cool animals either way. Well done on this fantastic snap. :)
