Ha, you did it!
I have been trying for weeks to get a shot like this. We are having a lot of red winged black birds here too (or is this one a tri-colored black bird?)
Great POV (point of view) with the wings spread out, revealing the red spots. Sharp details and excellent light.
If you have the pixels, you should post it at the maximum size of 800 for optimal appreciation.
A note about the subject would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Michel,
this is a very good start on TN.
The exposure and details are very good. The colours are nice and the POV are good. IMO it's a bit tight crop, it need more space, specially in front on the beak.

SUPERBE photo de cet oiseau mal aimé. Il est pourtant très beau comme le montre votre photo. Les détails sont très clairs pourtant un oiseau noir au soleil ... c'est pas facile ! Si c'est votre première photo sur TN il est évident que ce n'est pas votre première à vous. La pose et le bg montrant l'habitat sont supers. Merci

A brilliant capture, Michel! I have been trying for months (the males have been back since January in my area, and the females arrived about a month ago). They are all very wary, especially when they are being vocal like this. Usually they stay hidden in the brush along the creek shore unless the light is very dull.

fascinating picture of a very conspicuous bird we do not see in Europe.
Impressive pose of that bird, obviously claiming its territory as you describe in your interesting notes.
Very good details even within the black feathers, colour contrast is excellent, too.
