Great Blue Heron Ardea herodias


Order: Ciconiiformes
Family: Ardéidés

Food: Carnivorous, it nourishes small fish but also of Amphibians, crayfish, leeches, grass snakes, small rodents, large insects and molluscs.
Reproduction: The coupling and the laying take place from April at May as of the 2 years age. The couple incubates from 3 to 5 eggs during 25 to 29 days. The first take-off of let us oisillons will take place later 60 days.
Longevity: In wild and in captivity up to 20 years.
Predatory: The eggs or the oisillons can be the prey of the large corbel, of the crow of America, the seagulls, the raptors, the raccoon and the black bear.
Statute:Not in danger, except for the situation of the population of the coast of the Pacific which is considered to be alarming.

I like this typical for herons pose. Little soft but overall very good. Nice composition and green BG.

Luc, Like the position of your subject in this vertical frame. Great shot with the Heron in the tree like this, usually see them elsewhere. Excellent notes. Well done!

Nice composition Luc, shame it is a wee bit soft in focus, nevertheless it's a very nice shot and good note.

Hi Luc, lovely pose and composition. the focus a bit soft though. You also picked up some chromatic abberation on the branch at the feet. Check out the tips section in the forum. AdrianW did a nice post on removing CA from photo's if you're interested. Majestic birds these big Herons.
