Black-crowned Night-Heron Nycticorax nycticorax

As its name implies, this noisy bird is largely nocturnal, beginning to forage at dusk, when other herons are on their way to roosts.
Night-herons are less likely to nest in mixed colonies than other herons; when they do, they often keep to themselves in a separate corner.
These birds are sluggish hunters, standing quietly for long periods of time waiting for a frog or fish to pass by.
They also plunder the nests of other herons and make regular nighttime visits to colonies of terns or Franklin's Gulls, where they sometimes take large numbers of chicks.
Night-herons also stalk in grasslands in places where meadow voles are abundant, preying on these small rodents.

I hope you like them.

Hi Luc
Catch of the Day!
These "in the environment" shots are so nice, and he has a lovely catch. Did the other one try to rob his prize?
Like it very much, Luc.

Luc, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, is that enough? Excelent work. I guess you had to stalk and hide for this shot. Well done with the use of your cam. The sea or Lake.?

Fantastic shot.

I like it!!! Besides the size of the capture, and the pose trying to manage such a piece, the thief expresion of the other heron hoping a mistake of his friend is simply superb. This one would be also nice to make a thigt horizontal crop and make a Large Format. It is a nice shot, although in this one the quality is not important with such a composition, so thanks very much and congratulations.

Very good shot Luc. No nits.
