Took this shot of the Red-Winged Blackbird while at a friends home.It was raining very heavy that day.At the birds head is a large rain drop.
Adult male entirely glossy black except for bright red shoulder-patch with buff lower border.
L.19-24cm/7.5-9.5in.
wt.50-70g/1.8-2.5oz.
These birds are abundant breeders
they live around marshes, grassy roadsides, and suburban gardens.
The male always returns back first in the spring to establish breeding territories in anticipation of the females' arrival
It is common for these birds to fly long distances daily between foraging and roosting areas. They frequently forage on the ground.
