Black-Legged Kittiwake
Rissa tridactyla

Taken at Montreal's Biodome. This unique place recreates 4 North American ecosystems:
• the lush and humid Tropical Forest, warm even in the depths of a Montréal winter;
• the Laurentian Forest, changing with the seasons;
• the St. Lawrence Marine Ecosystem, replicating the Estuary and the Gulf;
• and the Polar Worlds of the Arctic and Antarctic.
BIODÔME de Montréal
Visitors can take photos but without flash and tripod or monopod. In the tropical and laurentian ecosystems, light is not very good; so we have to work with high ISO.
This one was taken in the St-Lawrence Marine Ecosystem.
Hope you like it.

This abundant gull is not commonly seen from shore, for it generally spends the entire winter on the open ocean, where it feeds on small fish and plankton. Most young gulls flee from the nest if disturbed, but the young of this cliff-nesting species stay put no matter how close a human observer gets-leaving a nest on a high narrow ledge could result in a fatal plunge to the rocks below. This is the only gull that dives and swims underwater to capture food.

Description
16-18" (41-46 cm). A small seagoing gull. Adult white with pale gray back and wings; sharply defined black wing tip, as if dipped in black ink. Feet black; bill yellow; tail slightly forked. Winter adult has dusky gray patch on nape. Young bird has dusky band on nape, dark diagonal wing band, and black-tipped tail.

Very nice catch with good low lighting. Maybe some more light would be better.

I like him :-) But I think he could be a little angry for you :-) Nobody like to make him a photo eating ;-)

But serious - Very interesting details, interesting note and beautiful shadows!

Fantastic photo.

Un vif impact visuel, René, pour cette Mouette tridactyle et sa proie. Je crois que tu vas récolter quelques Wow! C'est le premier mot qui a envahi mon mental lorsque j'ai aperçu ta photo.
Excellente capture.
Merci

Là je suis vraiment impressionné, belle nettete, pour une mouette en mouvement, very great shot Rene
Amicalement Christophe

Belle prise, la lumière accentue le blanc et le jaune de sa tête et son bec. Se qui donne beaucoup d'inpacte sur sa prise, de couleur or et argent. La netteté est très bonne,les couleurs réelles et bonne composition. FÉLICITATION !

Rene, Great action shot with a unique POV. You've captured the moment well. It's always a big plus when the subject is DOING SOMETHING, as seen here. Well done!

Rene, since I've begun checking your photos, there's something about them that invariably grabs my attention: the texture. I don't know if it's due to the camera, to the lens or to the post process (or, maybe, due to all of them), but they have a... shine or luminosity I really find great.

To me, your pictures aren't necessarily colorful, by they have a... brilliant touch that really makes them great.

I like the one above, and I think it works well without flash. I have the feeling the bird is really showing you his prey. Great job.

You must not keep his chicks as ransom, just because you cannot catch your own fish, and then coerce him in bringing YOU the fish.
René, I love this shot, in all aspects, also, I have never seen this guy in real life before, I know of this cousin of the gulls, but he is truely great!

This is a stunning piece of work. The POV here along with the exposure and sharpness, makes for a winner.

Wonderful job and thanks for posting

Rene, since I saw your first posts I expected stuff like this. The action is unreal and the POV unusual but so nice. Great work. Masterpiece! 10 points

Quel formidable endroit que ce biodôme.
Belle prise...autant pour le goéland que pour vous. :)

Superb POV for an excellent action shot. Beautiful.
I wish I had time to vote all your shots, they are all wonderful. Congratulations, Rene!

Félicitation et merci de les partager,

Christian

Such a sweet scene, reminds me of a cat carrying you back a "gift" only this is a bird bring you the "gift", nice sharp, clear photo that brings a smile to my face, always a good thing to me. Well done.
