The Great Blue Huron

Great blue herons can be found in the Nearctic and Neotropical regions. During the spring and summer, they breed throughout North and Central America, the Caribbean, much of Canada and the Galapogos. Some populations migrate to Central and South America during the winter months, but do not breed there.

Great blue herons always live near sources of water, including rivers, lake edges, marshes, saltwater seacoasts, and swamps. They usually nest in trees or bushes that stand near water, breeding at elevations of up to 1,500 m. They tend to avoid marine habitats along the east coast and instead live inland.

This Great Blue Heron was photographed in the Humber park near the Humber river.

Beautiful composition, it looks very peaceful, the undisturbed bird preening itself. I wonder how close you were? I like the ruffled feathers of the heron although I would have liked to see a bit more of his head.

that is beautiful as a photograph in itself..being an animal helps here but i would class this as outstanding for any category

Wonderfull composition and nice pose. Good shot, although the background is a bit unsharp, but maybe that was your intention to get the focus more to the animal?

This is a lovely shot Elton. I love the soft colors especially in the reflections. The focus is perfect on your subject and composition and exposure are excellent.

Absolutely beautiful, every time I try to get close to one of these birds they take off. It's great to see such a detailed image, the colors and reflections are wonderful. Love the splash of purple flowers admidst all that grey, well done.
