Caps are 3-10cm across,convex,becoming flat,with a central knob,dry to sticky,covered with dark,scaly tufts,especially near the centre,and pale yellow-brown to rust-brown.Gills are attached to short-decurrent,close to well-spaced,and whitish,staining rusty.Stalks are up to 15cm tall by 2cm wide and coloured as the cap or paler.Ring is white,thick,and flaring.Spore print is white.Recognized by its colour,scaly cap and flaring ring,this white-spored species,which is widespread and very common,fruits in clusters on wood or stumps in late fall.In recent years,Honey Mushroom complex has been broken up into a number of species that are sometimes difficult to tell apart in the field but all are edible.
