Hi Mike, nice shot
I think that the Neat-Image took some important details from the photo.
And the yellow is burning.

But the colors are great and the composition is fine.

The color combination is what I like the most in this shot. The white flecks need some urgent attention in PS though.

Mike I think you expect too much from yourself. Your standards are very high. I must admit its not perfect, but I think that pp work did more damage than good. I like it anyway. Good work

Good contribution to the "Just Missed Cat".
The burning out of the back as you say does take out the detail, not that the long haul between original capture and appearing here has not also lost a lot of the fine detail I think, but well worth posting in the new cat.

Your near miss is sooooo much better than my bird shots Mike. I can't shoot any! The only photos of birds I can take are ones my cat caught and brought home! Oh dear...

Yes, your assessment is right, I have many of these, everything right except the exposure - and so we learn - sometimes, because I epeat these mistakes.

Nice picture. Nice solf background. May be a slight overexposition of the bird. probably due to a hard bright sun.
I am intrigued by the few small right spots on the picture. Is this a scanned slide ?
