The wild teasel after first frost.

Dipsacus fullonum
Flowering period: April-August
Flower color: purple
Height:
2-7 feet
Habitat: Damp ground

Wild teasel was introduced from its native Europe and is now found across much of the west. The common name of teasel comes from cloth weavers using dried flower heads of the species to raise, or tease, the nap of a fabric. It is a fairly tall plant, with stout, prickly stems bearing long, lanceolate leaves in opposite pairs, with the bases of the leaves joining round steam. At the top the steam is the egg-shaped tiny purple florets. The florets open round the middle of the flower head first, with new ones opening above and below until eventually there are two separate bands of color.

Nice capture Ziggy - the color of the light really makes the teasel pop against the blue background. Maybe a bit centered.

Pretty, this plant, Ziggy. But it managed not quite enough to hide its grey hair.

A great post: picture and note.
Thanks for sharing.

Very nice shot Ziggy. Noice colors and background. I would suggest a vertical orientation.

Great composition, not a nit for this one, I like the blue BG and very good details as well.
