Green Heron
Butorides virescens

Taken in Parc-Nature de l'Ile-Bizard early in the morning. It was my first encounter with this creature.

In Quebec, green herons frequent mostly fresh water. They are found near the edges of ponds and in meandering rivers, flooded ditches and other calm watercourses. They prefer densely thicketed habitats, with alder bushes, for instance.

When nervous, this bird stretches its neck, raises its crest and shakes its tail. The young are agile climbers. When threatened, they use their wings, beak and feet to climb to the top of a tree, and sometimes even regurgitate the contents of their gullets onto the intruder! The parents regurgitate food directly into the nestlings’ mouths or drop it onto the floor of the nest.

Good shot but focus a bit soft, great BG.
Well done.
TFS.

Another great shot Rene. The POV is really good too. Well done. TFS

I see we are both posting the darker Herons today. :) It's very hard to get this exposure right. I think you did a great job. Nice pose in the natural environment. The metallic iridescence on the back shows off perfectly. Great Shot, Rene.

The picture is very sharp and well comp, the colora are great and are very clear!

WellDone!

Rene, This is composed well with a very complimentary OOF BG. The subject has good detail & a great pose IMO. The iridescence of the back feathers comes through nicely. Great job!!

Very nice shot Rene. Good detail and pose showing off the plumage very well. Good work

Very nice Rene. I like this kind of pictures where one really can see the details in the plumage. Very nice colours on this - to me - unknown bird. Thanks for the informative note.

This is a beautiful image of a heron that I have not seen before. Even though it is not quite the same sharpness of your normal shots, the image is still one to be proud of.

Very well done and thanks for posting.

René, another artistic shot of yours. That's the good part of technology: when it's in the hands of someone who knows how to use it with sense and sensibility, great things can be done, like this picture.

Very beautiful colors, perfect sharpness and composition to show us this beautiful bird.

Hi Rene. Great shot of this beautiful bird. Very nice composition whith good colours and sharpness. Another great shot.

Congratulations

Alexandre

Beautiful bird, great close shot....I don't know how you get so close to this bird! I see two somewhat simular birds during my bus runs every day, one of these days I'm going to be able to capture one shot to post! Although I doubt I get as close as you! Beautiful pose, I like the crisp clear branches he's standing on, and the colors in his neck.

Hi René
This is Mr Scaly's cousin. Our Green Heron looks similar, bur no browns like his cousin across the pond. Nice capture, and framing here.
IMO, the USM is a bit strong, otherwise no nits.

Guy
