| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
2nd. October 2006.
A corrected version has been posted today.
This one could quite possibly be a Papilio-palinurus or blumei. I apolozise for my original mistake. However, please note that this species are also found all over South America.
***** BLUE MORPHO *****
Morpho menelaus.
I saw these, neotropical butterflies, ... in abundance, ... in " meu QUERIDO Brasil" = my BELOVED Brazil.
The females are not as brilliantly coloured, having a brown edge with white spots surrounding the irridescent blue wings.
The Morphos are some of the most dazzaling. The underside appear brown with a series of "eye" spots to frighten off predators. The irridescent blue top has a dual purpose; to attract mates; and, also to startle enemies that come too close for comfort. Its
habit of closing the wings at rest makes this creature one of the hardest to register. ( I was VERY,VERY lucky !!!)
Shall post its " brown" side another time. Also, other species of the B.M. in days to come will be posted.
They feed exclusively on "fermenting" fruit to drink the alcohol, using their straw-like proboscis.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE IRRIDESCENT BLUE IS ALSO TO STARTLE ENEMIES THAT COME TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT ...
so, look, but dont touch.

Interesting butterfly, but not very sharp. Could be your camera (I am not familiar with the specifics of the one you list). Image seems grainy, no resolution, hence lack of sharp detail. Perhaps a bit too centered for most.

Hallo Aires,
the butterfly is not sharp and difficult to identify. However, it is clearly no Morpho-species, but a south-east Asian Papilio. Looks like palinurus or blumei?

Hello Aires,
Lovely capture.I liked POV,framing and visual impact a lot.
TFS...:-)
Hi Mario
What beautiful colours on your Blue Morpho butterfly. It's a bit out of focus, you can try sharpening it in your editing program. Sometimes it helps and sometimes not. The butterfly looks like a large species.
TFS Janice

Good colours are captured, and the subject is well framed!
Maybe somne sharpness is missing, but the subject and the note is interesting!
