| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note [French] |
Gadwalls are most numerous in the Central Flyway and in the Prairies, but not too common anywhere, although they are becoming more and more numerous in the nesting season on the St. Lawrence river islands of southern Québec. They are often called "gray ducks". They are one of the earliest migrants, seldom facing cold weather.
They are the only dabbling ducks with a white speculum. Small, compact flocks fly swiftly, usually in a direct line. Wingbeats are rapid.
Drakes whistle and quack like a mallard, but softer.

Hello Donald,
This is a pretty good capture of a species of duck that I have not succeeded in photographing as well as this, even though this shot is not perfectly sharp. Fine comp.
TFS, regards, Ivan
