[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hello,

Today I present you the insect-emblem of my province: Quebec. This emblem is the wonderful butterfly White Admiral (Limenitis arthemis arthemis). I took this picture in a village called East Angus in Quebec. The butterfly was feeding himself over some nice echinacea flowers. Hope you'll enjoy as I enjoyed capturing it within my camera :-)

Here are some notes about the White Admiral:

Geographic Range
The White Admiral is found throughout the eastern United States and West into the Rocky Mountains.

Habitat
The White Admiral inhabits deciduous broad-leaf forests and mixed evergreen forests. It also prefers forest edges and clearings.

Physical Description
The White Admiral has a wingspan of 60-70 millimeters. The upperside of both wings are black and there is a broad white band across each dorsal wing. On the base of the wings are orange spots and marginal rows of white and bluish dashes.

Reproduction
The White Admiral will often hybridize with the red spotted purple, another member of the genus Limenitis.

Food Habits
Foodplants of the White Admiral include wild cherry, poplar, aspens, and black oaks. The larval foodplant consisits of various trees such as the birch, willow, and poplar.

White admirals are currently widespread and abundant and not listed as threatened.

Other Comments
The white Admiral has a distinct flap and glide flight.

What a splendid macro work you have here!
The details and textures of both the butterfly and flower and impressivly clear and sharp, the colors lovely and the light greatly managed.
Excellent POV and DOF, too, isolating the subject from a very nice blurry BG.

Muy bonita imagen Michel, sobre todo por la composición con un excelente POV por debajo de la altura de la mariposa y un excelente DOF y foco que además produjo un fondo bien despegado de la escena principal.

Very beautiful image Michel, mainly for the composition with an excellent POV below the height of the butterfly and an excellent DOF and focus that it also produced a well detached bottom of the main scene.
