My last post was of Cameron Lake in Waterton National Park. There is a trail that goes from Cameron Lake up to Summit Lake. When we arrived at Summit Lake we saw Miss Moosie in the center entertaining herself by blowing bubbles! We watched her for about a half an hour. She just stood in water, nose deep, and revolved in slow circles...blowing bubbles! (see workshop) She didn't eat anything that we could tell. We finally decided that she was just playing. If anyone can explain it, we'd love to know. She had the entire perimeter of the lake to exit to, but she chose to come out on our side. I took a lot of shots of her, most of them very sharp, but I particularly like the pose in this one, in spite of the OOF tree. This was taken with the zoom so she wasn't quite as close as she appears.

The other interesting thing that happened was that some German hikers arrived at the lake soon after us. They spoke no English but were very excited about seeing this wild animal. Problem was their camera batteries were dead. After a lot of gestures etc. we were able to figure out that one of their memory cards would fit my camera so he was able to put it in my camera and shoot away. They were thrilled and so was I. I LOVE digital cameras.

Hello Evelynn

I know people who say moose are ugly, but I happen to find them beautiful.A lovely capture of this beauty.Beautiful ,well saturated colours. The DOF and POV are excellent.Moose can be quite hard to approach, they may be big but some are very timid.Excellent details and sharpness.TFS

I love this shot, Evelynn.
This is such a great capture of this cute moose.
The details on her are really sharp, and the light is excellent too.
The composition is fantastic, showing her peeking out of the tree.
I also enjoyed the shot you posted in workshop.
A great story about this playful wild creature,
as well as the story of international digital sharing.

I like this shot Evelynn. The focus on the head is very sharp and unlike you I really like the OOF tree as it gives a lot of depth to the picture and brings out the moose. I do think the body is underexposed and all the fur detail has been lost. Did you shoot in RAW? If so, you can try to adjust exposure and or shadows a little bit. If you didn't shoot in RAW you can try to adjust shadows with the shadows and light function in photoshop. Anyway, it's a very nice picture (and you even managed to get the catchlight from that distance), accompanied by an enteraining note. It's great that you were able to help those German tourists.

Well done & TFS!

Pieter

Hello Evelynn,
An excellent moose portrait!
Good light really brings out the fine details, well composed presentation with this majestic animal!
Greetings,
Pablo -

I quite like having the moose half hidden behind the tree as it gives a good sense of habitat and surroundings. Focus is tight on Miss Moosie, and detail is good...

Hello Evelynn,
I think that you are SOOO lucky to see those majestic animals in the wild like this. Every time you publish a moose’s picture, I envy you ;) It never happened to me even if I wanted it soooo bad :-) This is a great capture with excellent POV, details and composition. As always, I really appreciated your great history about this picture and I think that you were very kind to those German hikers :) I also liked the picture in WS. Well done and thanks,
Claudine

Hi Evelynn,
What a stunning photo. The pose of her is perfect, showing the beauty of the head perfectly. I agree with you in the OOF tree, it is disturbing the view a bit. But still the sharpness of the moose is spot. I do like the composition, where you placed the moose to the far right. I might consider a slight different crop, but that will not change much to the overall photo.
TFS,
Niek
