For this post i try something different!
Shoot
On monopod, raw format files
at 510mm (300mm f/4 + convertor 1.7X)
shuffle speed 1/500s at f/7.1
exposure correstion -0.7IL
speedlight
With software
convert raw to tiff with nikon capture
in PS i crop the bottom of the picture and some part of the left and right side, and reseize from width lenght at 1097 pixels to 800 to conform. I use auto level for improvement of the light effet because, went i shoot this birds i was in low light condition and don't change the setting on my camera.

les parametres n'etaient surment pas obtimum pour eviter le BG noir,mais c'est quand même un joli portrait.felicitations.

Salut Sébastien,
C'est vraiment ce que l'on apelle un close-up! Je ne connais pas cette sorte de Pic; c'est vraiment la première fois que je le vois. Les détails sont très bons! J'aurais aimé voir son bec mais bon, on ne fait pas tout le temps ce que l'on veut avec les photos de nature :-)Merci,
