Wow, that is a sharp image. I have seen some amazing shots with that lens. I have a Sigma 80-400. I got it because it is stabilized but I am starting to covet your lens. This is a really nice photo with a very simple composition and limited palette. I like it a lot.

this is an absoloutly stunning capture, you have realy caught the colour of the bird well.
i wish i had the oportunity of getting a shot of this bird in england but alas that will never happen.
the detail is spot on and the plumage of the bird works well with the background.
only thing i would do to improve the shot is remove the branch in the corner.

Very beautiful and clever composition showing the blue jay against a blue background! Very sharp focus and natural colours. The old lichen-clad branch adds charm to the picture.
I would have removed the little branch above.

What a wonderful shot of this cute blue-jay!
The pose of your subject here is great - big and fluffy :)) - and the light seems to fall just perfectly on it staying like that.
The details are very clear and sharp, the exposure is impeccably managed and the DOF is magnificent - isolating very well from the lovely blurred BG.

Hello Donald,

What a beautiful picture to look at! The colors are so fine and natural. I like the way the colors in the background match the colors of the jay. The composition is also very well done with the subject clearly isolated from the soft background. I wonder what it would look like if you removed the branch in the upper right corner. However, this isn't distracting and doesn't diminish the beauty of your shot at all.
Exposure is perfectly handled, revealing great, sharp details in the jay's plumage. The catchlight in the bird's eyes isn't missing, making it look alive.
A very short shutter speed made it possible for you to "freeze" the bird and eliminate any inconveniences created by the very long focal length. The f/6.3 aperture helped isolating the subject from the background while rendering every detail with accuracy and with no sharpness fall-off on the bird's body. The excellent picture is complimented with an elegant and very appropriate frame and an informative note about this species. I think this is a complete post and I like it very much. Actually, I find it to be one of the best here on TN and therefore it will go straight to may favorites. Thank you for sharing this beauty!

je viens de découvrir ton site et je dois t'avouer que tes photos sont magnifiques.
J'aime beaucoup l'effet de douceur que le bleu de l'oiseau et le fond de l'image apporte. Beaucoup de détails dû à une netteté sans reproche et une très belle composition aussi.
