Hello,

I took this picture of a Pine Grosbeak (female or male juvenile) near a little forest near home... Using a "point and shoot" camera, I have to manage well to be able to take this one... I know that using Photoshop I can be able to remove the busy bg but I always prefer to keep the picture as it was... Here we can easily see the environment where that Pine GrosBeak live... This nice bird visits us only during winter...

------------------------

Cool Facts

The tameness and slow-moving behavior of the Pine Grosbeak gave rise to local name in Newfoundland of "mope."

Winter flocks may stay near a tree with abundant fruit until all of it is consumed.

Winter irruptions are infrequent and irregular. To see an illustration of the invasion of the winter 1997-98, based on data gathered through BirdSource's Winter Finch Survey, click here.

A breeding adult Pine Grosbeak develops pouches in the floor of its mouth for carrying food to its young.

During most of the year, 99% of diet is vegetable matter, especially buds, seeds, and fruits of spruce, pine, juniper, elm, maple, mountain ash, apple, and crabapple. It feeds insects and spiders to its young, though, often mixed with plant foods. It drinks water or eats snow daily.

Hello Michel,
What a splendid in-flight shot - I like the beautiful balance of the wing shapes and wonderful colours. Great details too and the background pattern and colours blend in perfectly.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hello Michel,
Magnificent in flight capture.I liked POV,framing, eye contact,BG,moment you caught and composition a lot.
TFS...:-)

Wonderful capture at 1/500 speed, Michel.
The BG, as you rightly mention in your note, is quite natural by way of the bird's habitat.
TFS and bye.

Hi Michel,
Superb flight shot with great composition... The bird does blend in with the background but I find it only natural.
Thanks for sharing.

Salut Michel,
Merci,
Claudine

Hello Michel,
a beautyful action shot, I love the POV. Very well timed, lovely how this bird decends with the wings far apart. A nice composition, the sharpness, colors and details are wonderful.

Hi Michel,
Wow, I've seen plenty of Pine Grosbeaks on TN before but never on the wing. Quite an amazing POV to capture the body straight on and the full wing spread. Good exposure and detail and great diagonal framing. I know quite often there is luck involved with shots like this but that doesn't detract from the camera skill required to capture such a image. Excellent work!
Best regards,
Adrian

Hello Michel,
the capture of pose is just marvellous, coming with a perfectly fitting title. The pale transparent colours - low contrast and saturation - also look well fitting to me here. Very nice encounter, luckily well reported.
Thank you! BEst regards,
Peter

Hi Michel

A remarkable moment well captured of this ‘mope’. Actually, if it was a big eagle or a condor, you would have been well shaken because it sure looks as if this little guy is swooping in to catch you and carry you away.

Great action, excellent composition with the bird on the diagonal, lovely colours, and good exposure.

Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hello Michel,
This is a fantastic in-flight capture of Pine Grosbeak, the sharpness of the head and body helping to make it stand out from the BG. Excellent comp too. I agree that one should try to avoid the cloning tool.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan
